The Claude path for product managers
PMs sit in the middle: too hands-on for the "no code" track alone, not shipping production agents either. Here's the order that matches the job — judgment first, technical fluency second, proof third.
Take the exam
Claude Certified Associate (CCAO-F)
The Associate exam is judgment, not code: picking the right model and feature for a job, evaluating outputs, catching hallucinations, fitting Claude into workflows. That IS product judgment. A PM who passes it stops delegating AI intuition to engineers.
Learn the material
Developer blueprint (CCDV-F) — study it, exam optional
You don't need to pass the Developer exam to profit from its blueprint. Model selection economics, prompt and context engineering, eval design, agent-vs-workflow trade-offs — these are the exact conversations where PMs either shape the roadmap or nod along. Study the modules; sit the exam only if credibility with your eng org is worth $125 to you.
Build
Prove it on your own product
Prototype the feature yourself in claude.ai or Claude Code before the kickoff meeting. Write the first eval set for your AI feature — deciding what "good output" means is a product decision, not an engineering one. The 14-day challenge is the fastest on-ramp if you haven't built with Claude yet.
